8A Solving the Problem

The problem I presented was as a result of what I have noticed around my own university campus: students riding scooters or bicycles without helmets on. In my last post I explained why I believe the problem exists, the fact that helmets are rather unattractive, inconvenient, and not worn by the majority. My solution to the lack of use of protective headgear while operating mopeds, motorcycles, bicycles, or scooters is a product. Unless society decided that helmets are back in style and the invincibility theory among young adults ceases to exist, I can not think of a better way to solve this problem than by fixing the main issue: the helmet itself. Bottom line, whether young or old there is a part of us all that fears pain, injury, and even death and will go about trying to prevent it. If a protective headgear is constructed that is more flattering, easier to carry around, and able to be accepted by many I believe more people will start to protect their heads. I propose a variety of sty...

7A

Enforcing the use of protective headgear while riding scooters/bicycles Opportunity:  If you have been on the University of Florida campus, then I guarantee you have seen a student riding to class on their scooter or bicycle. More times then not, you will also see them without a helmet or anything on to protect their heads.  The Who: Particularly UF students, but more generally anyone who rides a moped, motorcycle, skateboard or bicycle.  The What: “The Who” who do not wear helmets or any form of head protection while operating their vehicles.  The Why: Helmets are rather large and clunky, and do not fit the societal norms that define what is considered “cool” or socially acceptable. Helmets are also rather inconvenient on campus as they do not fit in a backpack and cannot be mobilized easily. So some avoid them all together.  Testing the who: As stated before I believe this a need for anyone who operates a motorcycle/moped/bicycle/skateboard but f...

6A Identifying Opportunities in Economic and Regulatory Trends

Economic Trend: The Economy Is in the Expansion Phase of the Business Cycle Source: https://www.thebalance.com/top-usa-future-economic-trends-3305666   While the economy is in an expansion phase, America now has the opportunity to fully recover from the recent recession. The federal government is planning on raising the interest rates back to 2%, while this may be harmful in the short run, it is a proven long run asset. With the interest rate back in its normal place, unemployment can retuned back to its comfortable spot of 4%. The customer of this opportunity is businesses both small and large being able to work hard and expand despite recent set back. The opportunity will be easy to exploit because it is a natural phenomenon that inadvertently effects the economy as a whole. I am emphasizing the opportunity to expand steadily enough that businesses can enjoy the next phase: the peak, but be conscious enough to avoid a damaging contraction afterwards.  I believe mos...

5A Identifying Local Opportunities

1)Student loans can create terrible burden - The Savage Truth https://infoweb-newsbank-com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/apps/news/document-view?p=WORLDNEWS&t=pubname%3ASFLB%21Sun%2BSentinel%2B%2528Fort%2BLauderdale%252C%2BFL%2529/year%3A2018%212018/mody%3A0909%21September%2B09&f=advanced&action=browse&format=text&docref=news/16E53C07D0835350   Terry Savage explains that the time to start realistically planning how to tackle the cost of college is when your child enters high school. But before then she exclaims you should already have been putting away money in savings. Student Loans are an extreme difficulty that affect the lives of so many American students and their families. Savage’s solution is to start saving from the time of birth rather than waste money on excessive toys, fast food, or faster internet service for their games. She recommends opening a 529 college savings plan that let the money grow free of tax for use at any college or university for a students...

4A Forming an Opportunity Belief

I believe that mass-produced biodegradable plastic is a need that has been unmet. While the concept is certainly not new and the topic is one that is heavily circulated in recent news, I am disappointed by the lack of innovation to create a long term solution. The need is shared worldwide, pollution created by plastic has extended past effecting humans and has carried on to animals and the environment as a whole. In one year alone, e nough plastic is thrown away to circle the earth four times . The need for an alternative plastic has essentially always existed. However it has been the commercialized and over produced single use plastic in the modern era that has caused this travesty. If not put to rest soon, the human race will leave its future generations an inhabitable world. Efforts have been made to cut down on the use however. Starbuck’s decision to cease the use of plastic straws has been a result of an ongoing movement to cut down the general population’s use of plastic. One de...

3A My entrepreneurship story

Image
This past summer I was exposed to an entrepreneurial effort in the form of a new makeup company. The entrepreneur, Lewis Farsedakis, saw an unmet need in the makeup sector and started his company Blinc Inc Cosmetics. He felt as though there were not enough products on the market that were utilizing new methods of manufacturing mascara. In the company mission statement he states it "didn’t make sense to develop another oil-based paint mascara with their associated negative traits.” Therefore he then designed a mascara and respective products that utilize "tube-forming” mascara technology, which in addition to solving negative attributes associated with traditional mascaras, could be removed without makeup remover and worn for extended periods of time. Since then the company has grown exponentially and I had the honor to intern at their “pretty vulgar” office in Boca Raton this past summer as a marketing intern.  I enrolled in ENT 3003 because I wanted to gain more insigh...

2A Patton's Bug List

MY BUG LIST !!! A week after getting my eyebrows waxed and enduring that pain, the hairs grow back and I have to pluck them resulting in more pain.  WHY it exists : Societal norms that teach girls that they need to have shaped and clean eyebrows to feel pretty & the hair follicles around my eyebrows growing back at a faster rate than I would like.  2. Apple changing the Iphone 8 to not include a headphone jack so you need to buy a “dongle” to attach to your normal headphones to plug in to your phone.  WHY it exists : Apple “upgraded” the Iphone, but in reality made a feature that requires you to buy more products from them resulting in their gain of profit. For instance, going from the Phone 4 to 5 they completely changed the shape of the charger, forcing everyone to buy a new type of charger and making the old one obsolete.  3. Not being able to charge your phone and listen to music through headphones at the same time because there is only one ou...
