Five ways in which I think I have Human Capital:
- Passion- I only do things that I genuinely enjoy so that I can give the things I love my absolute all. I don't believe in doing things j
- Determination- I strive to achieve my goals regardless of what it takes to get them. I am not afraid of working hard for the things I want.
- Compassion- I have a serious want to listen and care after people, whether I know them personally or not.
- Authenticity- Regardless of what situation I am put into, I remain who I am and stick closely to what I value and believe.
- Bilingual- I speak both English and Japanese fluently and understand most Spanish. I am half Japanese and have traveled back and forth between the states and there which has completely broadened my horizons and impacted who I am. I hold this part very near to me because it has greatly changed my perspective on life.
Five Interviews (Recorded and Summarized)
The Question: “In your own words, what do you think makes ME different?”
***Written in text form bc I could not meet with 5 people closest to me in person and was unsure If I was supposed to record a phone call, so I either asked them over text or recorded their answers***
1. Dad: “What makes you special is your energetic personality, you brighten up any room you step in to. You love with your whole heart and care for others in a deep way. You have always been very smart, worked hard in school and worked hard in anything you've done. You are great at connecting with people and making them feel special, you are sociable and easy to approach. I think that will take you especially far in you future endeavors. You're determined, and bright and lovely to be around and that is what makes you so unique.
- Key Takeaways: Energetic, Smart, Determined.
2. Mom: "You do everything with no fear, you'll try anything at least once. You have no regrets in life, you do things with a purpose and don't look back. And your personality is extremely special, you make every moment count and thats not an easy quality to have. You care deeply for others and have a lot of passion towards life."
- Key Takeaways: Fearless, Purposeful.
3. Best Friend Gabi: “I think what makes you different is first obviously all the things that came with you being Japanese. So you speak Japanese, and practice the culture which is just completely unique to you. I don’t know anyone else with the same background who embraces it so fully. You’re also like a super genius, and anything you achieve academically you work really hard for. Also even though you’re super involved in clubs, you manage to balance them all with academics, and a personal life. Um.. oh you like to try new things, you have a really adventurous spirit. And you’re so generous. Theres nothing you wont do for someone else. And I think my favorite thing is how kind you’re heart it. I guess you’re pretty cool.”

4. Boyfriend Jared: “What makes Emily different from everyone else I’ve ever met is her extreme motivation to help others. Despite her predicament, she can and will drop anything for someone she loves. She will tirelessly devote her time and effort to her family and peers if they are in need of help despite what she has going on herself. On top of all that, she can always ensure that something will not only get done but also get done correctly.”
- Key Takeaway: Determined, Selfless
5. Best friend Eden: “You’re ability to incorporate the culture that your parents raised you with in to the American lifestyle and the way that you extract strains of each culture and community that you’re surrounded by and use the strongest parts of that to empower the people around you. You’re nice to anyone you meet, which Ive always admired about you. You’re a really hard worker, no matter what you’ll stay up late or work tirelessly to make sure it gets done. Sometimes you over extend yourself because you want to be able to help everyone and I see it take away from your own quality of life. Its nice of you to want to help but I think you need to find a better balance.”
- Key Takeaways: Cultured, Hardworking, Kind
Reflection:
For the most part, what I believe my human capital is reflected what the people closest to me believe to be true also. Some of the things that make me different, also negatively affect me. Although I kind of knew that, it became more clear today. My determination sometimes turns into blind overworking, and my want to help everyone leaves me little time to tend to myself.
Hi Emily,
ReplyDeleteIt looks like your family and friends have some great things to say about you and all those great traits will definitely aid you in starting a business if you were ever to. The five components that add to your human capital that you wrote are very important for any entrepreneur- having passion specifically I think is one (if not the most) important trait a business owner can have.
Hello Emily,
ReplyDeleteI thought you did a great job analyzing yourself, and it's interesting to hear how others perceive your strengths. Being bilingual is an absolutely perfect example of human capital; a marketable skill you have. In addition, being multicultural gives you some rounded insight others may not have. Great job in your post! It seems like you learned a lot about yourself talking to friends and family.
